Lisa Southern

Catering Coordinator

My children began their education at the Weengallon Kindy in 2000 when the Kindy first began. I was involved with the Kindy & am a founding member of the WPLD.

The first fundraiser for the Kindy was held in 2000 – a tennis day co-ordinated by Penny Armstrong & Melissa Southern to help raise funds to buy cleaning products & equipment for the Kindy. This day began with tennis, 1 stallholder, a fashion parade & kebabs on the BBQ for lunch (with the Brown Rice Salad). This was the format for 3 years before making the decision to hold a Ladies Luncheon in the hall & donating a percentage of the proceeds to Breast Cancer Research. That first year we had 80 ladies attend & raised $500.

Known as Weengallon Pink Day, the committee has seen much change over the years, especially having to have a name change as we were in conflict with other Pink Day Association’s, hence our name WPLD was borne. The day has always involved a guest speaker, market stalls, raffles & bra art auction. With numbers increasing each year the decision was made to move to a marquee to host our guests with the day seeing more stallholders, increased donations & sponsorships & lots of food supplied.

I have always been involved with the catering as in the beginning we each brought a dish whether it be a nibbles platter, main, dessert or slice. As the WPLD grew in numbers we each took on a designated role & I took over the catering in 2007/2008, continuing to be involved till today. I have a wonderful group of ladies in my kitchen team who are very supportive & we enjoy creating different menus for our guests each year.
